Cream Puff Stuff with COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

In this house, we firmly believe in enjoying everything in moderation and that includes having a little something sweet every day!

One of the easiest desserts we regularly eat during the week is fresh balsamic strawberries topped with COOL WHIP whipped topping.  Simply cut up one pint strawberries and marinate in 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar and 2 tablespoons sugar at room temperature for at least 2 hours and serve topped with a dollop of COOL WHIP.  Another really easy week day dessert is my yummy “cheater” chocolate mousse.  Simply mix equal parts chocolate pudding and COOL WHIP. 

For special occasions though, you need an all-out restaurant worthy dessert. This is what my family affectionately calls the “Cream Puff Stuff”. It is simply divine. It’s been a family favorite since I was a child and now that I’m grown, I’m keeping with tradition and sharing it with my own family. Even my picky little toddlers love this dessert. 

It’s comprised of a light crust filled with creamy goodness and topped with COOL WHIP and a drizzle of chocolate.  It is served chilled which makes it the perfect dessert for summertime cook outs! And aside from being delicious, it’s easy to make and rather impressive looking too, don’t you think?

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 (5 oz) boxes instant vanilla pudding
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 tub COOL WHIP Whipped Topping
  • chocolate syrup
The crust:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Place butter and water in a small saucepan and bring to a gentle boil.  Add flour and stir until well mixed.  Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool for 2 minutes.  Beat in eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Spread mixture into a greased 9×13 pan.  (The mixture will be thick but don’t worry, that’s how it should be!).  I find it easiest to just pat the crust mixture into the pan with my hands.  Bake at 400 degrees for 30-35 minutes.  Do not over-bake.

The filling:
For the filling, beat cream cheese, pudding mix, and milk until it thickens slightly.  Pour evenly into the cooled crust.

The toppings:
Spread COOL WHIP over the top of the dessert.  Drizzle with chocolate syrup.  Simply run a knife through the COOL WHIP and chocolate to make the design as it appears below.  When I’m feeling extra fancy, I like to use a both dark chocolate syrup and milk chocolate syrup on top.

Keep dessert refrigerated and serve chilled.
