“A Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart” Burlap and Mod Podge Wall Hanging

A Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart Burlap & Mod Podge Wall Hanging

This was a fun and easy project that I plan to eventually try to coordinate into my Thanksgiving Mantle.  We’re hosting Thanksgiving this year and we’ll have somewhere between 20-30 people so I really want the house to be nice and festive.

Here’s how you can make your own.

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 Decorative Wood Signs (2 small, 2 large).  I got mine from PickYourPlum a while back but you can find these or something similar in the raw wood section of craft stores.
  • Burlap
  • Mod Podge
  • Fabric or Acrylic Paint
  • Stencils (Heart and Letters.  I used Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Stencils for the text and one of her cardboard stencils for the heart.  Text and heart stencils are abundant in craft stores.)
  • Foam Brush, small spouncer, small paintbrush
  • Craft Sticks
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Picture hanging hardware

I started by tracing my 4 wood signs onto the burlap with a marker and carefully cutting them out with small detail scissors.

Then I painted each wood piece with a layer of Mod Podge and applied the fabric to them.  I placed them on top of various bottles/rolls of tape to let them dry overnight so they wouldn’t stick to anything.

Then I stenciled the text and hearts onto the pieces as shown in the below pics:

After it dried thoroughly, I applied a coat of Mod Podge over the top.  Then I used 4 craft sticks between each sign to hot glue the pieces together.  I also glued a stick horizontally to the top and bottom of the hanging so it will lay nicely on the wall.  Finally, I hot glued a triangular picture hanger at the top center on the back.

The hardest part was finding a good spot to hang it up.   I really love how it turned out!

    I love these. Well done.

  2. Super cuteness; I’m not huge into holiday decorating, mostly because I don’t want it to look cheezy, but this is sophisticated, sweet, and subtle (sorry, I had to get alliterative there). Totally pinning this!

    • I’m so totally with you on the cheezy factor for holiday decorating! I didn’t decorate for holidays other than Christmas much before I had kids but they love it so I try to do a little something festive for each one. Thanks for the pin love! :)

  3. Super cute! I love how it turned out!

  4. I would LOVE for you to link this up at my Ginger Jamboree Link Party!!
