Guest Post: DIY Rustic Noel Decor {from The Happier Homemaker}

I’m thrilled to have the talented Melissa of The Happier Homemaker guest posting today.  She’s sharing an awesome rustic DIY Christmas décor project that would look adorable on a holiday mantle or shelf.

rustic noel wood block decor

Hi y’all! My name is Melissa and like Dawn I’m a military spouse and mom to three little ones. I love to create DIY home decor and make my home beautiful frugally and I blog all about it at The Happier Homemaker. Today I want to share with you this easy rustic Christmas decor you can make for your home or as a gift!

To make this simple decor project you’ll need a scrap 2 by 4, circular saw, sander or sandpaper, stain, paintbrush, and polyurethane.

I started off with a scrap two by four I had left over from a previous project. Using a handheld circular saw I cut the wood into four blocks. Perfection is not the goal here-I intentionally created the blocks in different heights and with slight angles in the cuts.

Once I had my blocks cut I used a palm sander to smooth the surfaces and then drew my “NOEL” letters freehand on the blocks. If you don’t feel comfortable drawing them you could very easily print out a template on your computer using a font you like and trace it.

I used a Misson Oak stain and fine tip craft paintbrush to paint my letters on. Again-we are going for the rustic look-it doesn’t have to be perfect! Once your stain is dry finish it off with three coats of spray on polyurethane.

That’s it! You’re all done! Wasn’t it easy?

To see more of my fast, frugal home decor projects you can visit my blog, or follow along on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.

Thank you Dawn for allowing me to share this project here today!
