Spring Porch & Burlap Deco Mesh Wreath

Spring Burlap Deco Mesh Wreath

I have to admit the big, ornate deco mesh wreaths, although impressive and pretty, aren’t usually my taste. But when they came out with the burlap deco mesh, they grew on me. This was the first one I’ve made and it was surprisingly easy and the metal wreath forms are so inexpensive! I wasn’t prepared for how large they end up so it ended up looking better on the wall of my porch than my front door but I love the pop of color it adds for Spring.

To make one like mine here’s what I used (all from Hobby Lobby):

  • Wire wreath form
  • Floral Wire
  • 3-4 rolls burlap deco mesh (I used about 3 ½ rolls)
  • One (3 yd) spool of Chevron ribbon
  • Raffia Flower Garland

Start at one of the middle areas where the metal bars cross each other and secure the burlap with the floral wire. Bunch it and secure at each cross area along the middle all the way around as shown. Then you start on the outside and move to the middle and then the other side and back and forth moving all the way around (It sounds more complicated than it is…it’s a bit hard to explain in words, so watch this video to see how it is done.)

Then I used the ribbon in the same manner as the initial row of burlap on the wreath as shown below.

Finally, I just hot glued on the garland weaving the raffia between flowers from one side to the other and leaving the “tail” hanging on the wreath.

Don’t you just love their little moss centers?

The chairs are part of a full outdoor set we found on Craigslist a few years back but our puppy chewed up the cushions (and part of the chairs). I found these blue cushions at Target earlier this week and moved the chairs to the porch were he can’t chew on them. The fire pit/ice cooler table was black cast iron and I painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Florence last Spring. It’s held up really well outdoors! You can find the tutorial for the DIY Rock Vase the hydrangeas are in here.

I’m so happy Spring seems to have finally arrived!

  1. This is so cute – perfect for spring. I have a simple burlap wreath on my porch, but I think I need to spring it up.
