Like it, Love it, Obsessed: August Edition
I’m so excited to share a few things I’ve been loving this past month with you!
One: My New Laptop and Travel-Friendly Backpack
Confession: Even though my kids are 5+ now, my favorite bags for travel/art supplies are still (and always will be) baby/diaper bags. Sounds weird, but I’ve found that nothing else provides the storage that a baby bag does! They are so perfect for toiletries and art supplies for two main reasons: (1) pockets galore (2) easy to clean.
So, I’ve been searching for a backpack I can travel with that’s both stylish and meets my needs (namely to fit my laptop/iPad and lots of pockets for art supplies). After months of debating on which one to buy, I settled on the Petunia Picklebottom Pathway Pack Backpack. I especially love that it can be carried messenger style or backpack style.
Two: Favorite Art Supply of the Month
The new Tombow Twin Tones sets come in two color options: Bright and Pastel. Each pack contains 12 markers. I love both but if I had to pick, I think I’d go for the pastel. They’re awesome for lettering and they don’t bleed through my planner with either tip!
If you order them via TombowUSA, be sure to grab my reader exclusive coupon code over on the DND Reader Specials Page!
A bit more about the Twin Tone Markers:
- Double-sided marker creates thick or thin lines with two tip choices – broad 0.8mm bullet tip for bold lines or extra-fine 0.3mm tip for detailed, precise lines.
- Water-based ink doesn’t bleed through most papers.
- Durable fiber point tips are long lasting and maintain shape after use.
Three: Latest Lettering Books
I usually add a few new books to my collection each month and this month was no exception! These are the two great new lettering books I added to my bookshelf.
- The Art of Lettering: Modern Calligraphy in Four East Steps by Stefan Kunz
- The Calligrapher’s Business Handbook: Pricing and Policies for Lettering Artists by Molly Suber Thorpe.
Four: New Procreate Brushes!
I got a new 4-pack of brush for Lettering on my iPad in Procreate and they’re soooooo awesome you guys! Anything you’ve seen me post on Facebook or Instagram lately with blended colors was done with the watercolor brush from this Procreate 4-Brush Calligraphy Bundle.
I have a tutorial coming soon to show you how I use the brushes to blend. The below piece was done using the “Pointed Pen” and “Watercolor Brush” from this pack.
This piece was done with more watercolor brush blending for the letters in “FUN” and for the shading and coloring details on the rest!
Five: The Random Things I’m Loving!
I’ve been trying to reading “just for fun” book a week this Summer. I love Emily Giffin books but she can only put out so many, so I had to find some similar authors to start following!
A few of the books I read and loved this month are:
- The Hating Game (This one MUST end up a movie!!)
- The One That Got Away
- Summer at Sea (Book One)
- Summer at Sunset (Book Two. I’m still in the middle of this one.)
Fair warning: These are all “Romantic Comedy” style chick-lit books with some language and bow-chicha-wow-wow scenes.
I read a few more too, but they weren’t good enough to recommend.
Stay tuned for next month’s Like it, Love it, Obsessed
