2019 Lettering Challenge. This year’s challenge will be all about creating community with positive vibes.
2019 Lettering Challenge
I started doing lettering challenges back in 2015. Over the past year, we’ve been doing a daily theme, but many of you requested a specific daily prompt challenge again, so that’s what I’m going back to in 2019.
The coming year’s challenge will be all about creating community with positive vibes. The goal is to use the prompts to practice your lettering, connect with your audience, and have fun doing it!
Doing the Challenge
Here’s a basic rundown of how the challenge is designed to work.
First of all, I want you to focus on growing your lettering skills and trying new styles, so I’m keeping it simple with one word prompts. One word a day keeps it doable and less overwhelming. Here are just a few ideas for lettering styles you can play with:
- Serif, Sans Serif, or Script Lettering
- Brush Calligraphy/Modern Calligraphy
- 3D Lettering
- Monoline Lettering
- Watercolor Lettering
- Chalk Lettering
- Illustrative Lettering
- Lettering with Objects (flowers, Legos, coffee beans, candy, etc.)
I encourage you to get as creative with each daily prompt as you wish. There are no rules! If a word makes you think of a longer quote, phrase, song lyric, bible verse, poem, etc., you have the creative freedom to go with it. The only thing I ask is that you keep it positive. ?
If you post your work on social media, these prompts are a fantastic opportunity for you to share pieces of your heart and your life, which in turn, build community. Think about how you can take the prompt of the day and turn it into a relatable story, life lesson, or words of encouragement.
If you don’t share your work online, you can still use these prompts as inspiration for creative journaling and self-reflection.
