7 Classes to Help you Rock Art + Lettering on the iPad Pro
Until the release of the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, I never cared much for lettering digitally. In fact, I didn’t even own an iPad until the Pro came out. Now? I use my iPad Pro daily and letter on it 90% of the time. It’s like having my entire workspace condensed into a 12.9″ tablet. If I’m traveling, it’s the one thing I take. It makes working on the go easy peasy.

Most of these classes are via Skillshare. If you’re new to Skillshare, you can click the photo below to get a free 2-week trial of Skillshare Premium. I did the trial and after taking five classes, I opted to pay for the Premium Membership to Skillshare. If you pay annually it breaks down to around $10 a month. Since I typically pay $30-300 PER each online class I take, this is a crazy good deal, especially with as many classes as Skillshare offers!
This is not a sponsored post, so it’s worth repeating that I actually use, pay for, and take a ton of classes online (mainly via Skillshare, Brit + Co, and Atly).
Taking Online Classes
If you’ve followed me a while, you already know that I am constantly taking online classes! Learning to do Art + Lettering on your iPad is overwhelming, especially since the Procreate App has SO many awesome features.
Online classes teach you awesome tricks and techniques much more quickly. I hand-picked seven classes that will help you rock your iPad Art + Lettering in no time.
Click through to each class to read a full description of what you’ll learn, what supplies/apps you’ll need, the length of each course, and what the course includes.

7 Classes to Help you Rock Art + Lettering on the iPad Pro
- Intro to iPad Lettering – Teela is an awesome teacher. I’ve taken several of her classes. Take this class if you’re just getting started and looking to pick up some stellar techniques.
- iPad Lettering: The Ultimate Guide – Peggy is an award-winning Skillshare teacher and fellow Tombow Brand Ambassador. Learn a little bit of nearly everything in this class!
- Flourishing on the iPad – This class includes worksheets and 12 brushes to help you rock flourishing. I’m in the middle of this class right now!
- Create Your Own Font on the iPad – This is another one of Peggy’s classes. One app is all you need to make your own font. I made this font after taking it!
- Limitless iPad Lettering class – For those of you with Intermediate and Advanced Lettering skills, this class taught by Stefan Kunz for Amanda Arneill is a must! I bought it and took it a few months back and learned SO much. Not only will you learn a ton, but it also comes with a killer eBook and a handful of awesome Procreate Brushes which are some of my go-to brushes.
- Digital Florals: Painting in Procreate – While researching and taking classes to write this post, this was one of the classes I was most excited about! I’m taking this class right now and I’m super excited to be able to start adding more digital floral work to my designs.
- How to Use Mockups on your iPad – I use Mockups in Photoshop (PSD) but did you know the Procreate App allows you to use PSD documents?! This means you can use the mockups right on your iPad (no Photoshop necessary). This 10-minute class will rock your world!

iPad Pro FAQS
I want to take a moment to address a few FAQS I get about the lettering on the iPad.
- Which size iPad Pro should I get? I started on the 9.7″. I quickly realized how much I loved lettering on it, so I gave my hubby the 9.7″ and upgraded to the 12.9″. I’d have saved a ton of money if I’d just started on the big one. The extra inches are so nice! I feel like the smaller sizes feel a bit cramped space-wise, so I’d go for the 12.9″.
- Can I use the Apple Pencil on other iPads? The Apple Pencil only works with the iPad Pro.
- Is there a non-iPad equivalent? Honestly, there is nothing that comes close to the magic that is the iPad Pro + Apple Pencil + Procreate App.

What app is used in the Flourishing on the Ipad class? I watched the intro video twice and didn’t hear any reference to any specific app. Thanks a bunch!
Hi Nancy! It’s listed down in the course description unless the video. 🙂 Here’s the list: Procreate, Amaziograph and Autodesk Sketchbook. I have the first two already and just have to get the Autodesk Sketchbook app for the class. On the”Your Projects” tab under the video is where you can find the course downloads (brushes and worksheets). Happy flourishing!
I was glad to see I already had some of these saved in Skillshare! Teela is awesome and I’ve loved all of Jane’s classes (Flourishing on the iPad). Just joined your FB group and also thanks for all you share here on your blog.
Hi Dawn,
Please could you help me… I am also crazy about fonts and lettering… How do you gain access to all those flourishes and special doodles available within a font… No one has been able to help me yet!

Hi Ashleigh! I actually talked about that in today’s special edition Happy Email on fonts! You can read it here: http://mailchi.mp/bydawnnicole/happy-email-special-edition-all-about-fonts
Hi! Loving your site. Thanks for sharing so much helpful information. I have been considering purchasing the iPad Pro for awhile now and even more so to try the Procreate app. I was wondering if you can shed some light on what you’d suggest storage space wise. Do you need a ton of storage for the designs you save in the app or is it easy to just transfer to my macbook pro and save there? TIA
Hi Christina! I keep most of my stuff on the Cloud and Dropbox so I went with the 128gb. I mostly use my iPad Pro for lettering and Netflix, so that’s been plenty of storage space for me. 🙂
Hi..can someone who is a complete beginner and has just boight an ipad pro and pencil begin with Stefan Kunz’s limitlessless ipad lettering..or is it only for people with intermediate skill?
Which course would you recommend to someone who wants to begin learning ipad calligraphy ?
Hi Kanika! It’s definitely an intermediate level course. I’d suggest starting with the Brit and Co iPad course (Number 8 on the list).
