Back to School Lettering Tutorial: Make Good Choices
Whenever I drop my kids off at school, I tend to say mom things like “Make good choices!” so I thought it would only make sense to letter a momism for this Back to School Lettering Blog Hop. I’m also including the finished artwork as a free printable that would be great to post in classrooms!
Lettering Style: Off the Page
Lettering that goes off the page is a simple yet effective way to add character and style to a piece, so that’s what we’re going to work on in today’s tutorial.
Note: I did this lettering art on my iPad Pro 12.9″ with the Apple Pencil and Procreate App, but I’m including template style worksheets to you can try it on paper as well.
Grab the templates and let’s get started!
iPad Lettering Templates:
- Make Good Choices Coloring Style Template (outline only)
- Make Good Choice Completed Colorful Print (great for classrooms!)
- Thick Calligraphy Brush (one of my most used brushes)
- Artsy/Chalk Brushes (I’m using one that came with Stefan’s Kunz’s Limitless iPad Lettering course, but this pack has brushes that will give you a similar look.)
This will be so much easier to teach you via a video lesson, so here you go!
I misspoke in the video and you can go back from turning a layer into a transparent PNG, but it’s still always good to keep a “main copy” of your lettering that you never edit, just in case you can’t undo something and need to go back to the original. 😉
