Coliro Pearlcolors Mica Watercolor Sets. These magically shimmery sets of mica paints dance on paper. I created sample palettes (on three types of paper!) to compare nine of the Pearlcolors Sets.
Note: These paints were originally called FineTec Watercolor paints before re-branding as Coliro.
This post is not sponsored and I bought all of these sets myself! I simply love the Pearlcolors sets so much I want to share them with you. ?
Coliro Pearlcolors Mica Watercolor Sets
No photo can truly capture how magical the shimmer of the Pearlcolors are in person. The specks of shimmer dance in the water as you paint. The more they dry, the more beautifully shimmery they become.
Noteworthy
These paints were originally called FineTec Watercolor paints. They rebranded earlier this year as Coliro but most U.S. sites currently still list them as FineTec paints.

What Makes Pearlcolors so Awesome?
For starters, they’re made in Germany and since we’re stationed here right now, I find that extra cool! This quote from the company’s site sums them up perfectly.
Pearlcolors can be dissolved with water and applied with a brush. They are perfect for creating special effects and highlights, they are also ideally suited for calligraphy. Shimmer-Pearlcolors are difficult to see on white paper – but on dark paper they almost magically appear in the brightest colors. Shimmer-Pearlcolors are also perfect for adding amazing highlights to your paintings. (via Coliro.de)
The Coliros Pearlcolors Sets
Each set contains 6 colors. There is a bit of overlap with some colors being in two palettes but that doesn’t bother me one bit.
- Golds
- Fairytale
- Magic
- Pharao
- Rainbow
- Silk
- Earth
- Ocean
- Candy (This is a palette that came out after I wrote this post but I’ve purchased it and will be updating the post with comparison photos ASAP!)
I actually realized I didn’t have Earth and Ocean while I was working on this post, so I ordered them so I could do a full comparison of all the sets. So let’s make a mess and create some palettes, shall we?!
Using the Sets
Add a few drops of water to each color you want to use. Let sit about 3 minutes and the paints will be the perfect consistency for painting!
The Coliro Pearlcolors Mica Watercolor Sets: Palettes
I think the photos speak for themselves so I’ll mostly let them do the talking for each palette!
Golds Palette
An angled shot shows the sheen a bit more.
This was my first set of Coliro colors.
Fairytale Palette
Magic Palette
While these colors don’t really show on white or kraft, look how they ROCK on dark paper!
Pharao Palette
Rainbow Palette
Silk Palette
I had to try the rose gold with my dip pen! It’s so easy to use these paints as calligraphy ink.
I just brushed some on the nib with a small round paintbrush.
Earth Palette
This palette is so lovely and just so perfectly says “Autumn”.
Ocean Palette
The ocean is my happy place so this palette is one of my favorites (as if I could pick just one)!
NEW! Candy Palette
Photos coming soon.
Where to buy them
Remember, many American sites still list these as FineTec Watercolor Paints. They’re one in the same as the Coliros.
- UPDATE! Amazon.com has a ton of the palettes now. Check them out here.
- JetPens.com has a ton of them here.
- DickBlick.com has a good selection here.
- Since we’re currently in Germany, I was able to order all of my sets via Amazon.de.
- Coliro.de will ship worldwide.

PHAROH, DEFINITELY!
Thanks for doing the hard work of laying it all out for us. Now all we have to do for ourselves is SHOP. (Or leave a little note for the elves….)
Pharoh is definitely magic! I hope the elves are good to you! 🙂
I love my set of Finetec golds (I guess Coliro now) and now you’ve got me wanting more of the sets!!
I hope you can help. I’m looking for a list of all the colors. I’ve contacted the company with no response. I’m not sure if they have renumbered or renamed some I have. Hope you can help!
Hi Pat! I’m so sorry but unfortunately, I do not have a full list of all the colors they offer. Being that the re-branded a few years back, I wouldn’t be surprised if some colors were renamed though!
I don’t know how to brush letter or watercolor, yet you have me wanting to purchase these!
