Creating Mockups with Your Lettering in Canva
Hello friends! This is Kelly from Here Comes the Sun and I’m so happy to be here today. I’ve been a huge fan of Dawn’s for a while now and just love everything about her blog. I mean, she’s got some serious hand lettering skills!
Have you ever wondered how she creates those beautifully styled shots on Instagram? You know the ones that I’m talking about: the flat lays. I’m here today to give you the inside scoop on how to make them. It’s not as hard as you may think. I’m going to teach you how to create mockups in Canva.
Step one: Getting Started with Canva
First things first. You need to create an account with Canva. Don’t worry, it’s free! Canva does have a paid option but everything that I’m going to show you today you can do with the free version.
Canva is a great graphic design tool for anyone who is intimidated by Photoshop. Even if you are a Photoshop master, you can still create mockups in Canva quickly and easily. When you open up Canva, you’re going to get this screen. Choose “Create A Design” and click on the image for Instagram.
You now have a Canva template that is perfectly sized for Instagram.
Step Two: Choosing a Mockup
Next, you need to choose a mockup. Today, I’m going to use a flat lay mockup to showcase a printable that I created.
Where to Get Mockups
- Check out Dawn’s free mockups here.
- Dawn also offers a bunch of mockups to her email subscribers for free. So if you haven’t signed up for her Happy Email Club, you can do that here and you will have instant access to all her exclusive freebies. The flat lay mockup that I am using today is available on her Happy Email Club page under “mockups”.
- You can also get a bunch of them for just $1 in her shop. (Some of these are free to her email subscribers!)
Step Three: Uploading the Mockup
Next, Click on the “uploads” button on the left-hand side in Canva and navigate to the saved mockup. Once it uploads, just double-click on it and it will load into the Instagram template.
Step Four: Adding Your Lettering or Artwork
We’ve got our pretty Canva mockup and now we need some artwork to show off. You can create your own hand-lettered print using this tutorial or you can use another print that you have already created. Follow the same steps as above to upload your print to Canva and place it on top of the template. Resize your print by clicking and dragging on the corners. Rotate your print by clicking on the arrow at the bottom and dragging left or right.
Step Five: Saving Your Mockup
When you are satisfied with the way your mockup looks, click the “Download” button at the top of the screen to save it. Now you can upload it to Instagram and hashtag it to your heart’s delight.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this tutorial on Creating Mockups with Your Lettering in Canva.
