Debossing with the Silhouette Curio
While the Silhouette Curio has a bit more of a learning curve than the CAMEO, it sure can do some amazing things! Learning how to set it up is a bit intimidating but it’s not as hard as it seems.
To get started I open the Gift Tags I designed. (You can download the PNG files of all 8 gift tags here.). Then I traced them to turn them into cut files. In this case, I’ll be debossing them on vellum and cutting them.
After that you can set the tools you plan to use. I used the fine embossing tool and the blade. You can cut on the embossing mat, by the way. In the interest of full disclosure I had to ask my friends at Silhouette about that, so I cut mine by hand after I debossed them because I wasn’t sure at the time.
The cut settings window tells you how many platforms to use. This shows me I need 6: (2) No 2 platforms, (1) No. 1 Platform and (1) Embossing Mat.
Putting the mats on the platforms was tricky the first time but it’s pretty simple really…
Not so hard, right? Then I put my vellum on the embossing mat and let my machine go to work debossing the vellum with my tag design.
Getting good pics of the debossing is a challenge. The photos don’t do them justice!
This is one of the best videos I’ve watched on the Curio:
