This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Sharpie, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #NeonSharpie http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO.
If you’ve been following along with me this year, you know that I went back to school again this past January for Graphic Design. I’m actually working on my very last class! Along the way, I’ve learned I really have a love for hand drawn typography, so when I got the chance to try out the new Neon Sharpies®, I instantly knew I wanted to create a typographical Halloween Sign by hand.
And the coolest part is they are black light responsive…so of course I bought a black light bulb to put out on our porch so this sign will glow at night. So cool!
The Sharpie® Fine Point Neon markers have ultra vivid color in natural light with marks that turn fluorescent in black light. Start Bright. Go Electric.
- Brilliant, vivid color in daylight
- Mark fluoresces under black light
- Vivid ink leaves permanent mark on most surfaces
- Durable, fine tip produces bold, detailed lines
- Great for use on paper, plastic, wood and leather
- AP Certified non-toxic ink is water, smear and fade-resistant
To create this project, I went and bought a flat 12″ x 16″ canvas, the Neon Sharpie® 5-pack (from Target), and used my drawing supplies (ruler, pencil, eraser and black Sharpie®). I drew lines across the canvas to keep my text straight. You can draw your text by hand or use letter stencils to create your own version. I’m a lefty, so mine gets pretty messy but it’s easy to clean up in the next steps.
When I had everything drawn on my canvas, I used a fine black Sharpie® to outline and color in everything. When dry, I used an eraser to get rid of the pencil marks. Then I began to add color with the Neon Sharpies® taking care not to touch the black too much since it tends to bleed into the colors if you do. Finally, after I had outlined all the art in Neon colors, I colored in the whole background black with a large black Sharpie®.
If you’re short on time or if you’re just not into drawing, I worked up a free 8×10 printable version in black and white so that you and/or your kiddos can color your own!
