DND Lettering Styles Week 6: Six Styles to Try
I lettered this week’s styles last Sunday. Being under the weather that day gave me a good reason to stay in PJs and do nothing much but letter while I caught up on some of my favorites TV shows.

I created a new hashtag for this project in which I’m focusing on creating and trying new lettering styles. If you want to join me, share your Lettering Styles work and be sure to use: #DNDletteringstyles over on Instagram.
This Week’s Styles
This is the basic trio of steps I used for each letter:
- Draw each letter of your word in various styles: block letters, serif letters, script letters, etc.
- Add a shadow to each letter. Picture the sun in one corner of your page to help you determine where the shadows should fall.
- Finally, add different details to each letter.
I took a screenshot below to show you all the many layers I tend to use when creating a piece like this.

Since each style is pretty self-explanatory, I just created a printable version of the styles. Printables and Artwork are ©2017 Dawn Nicole Designs®. Personal Use Only please and thank you!

Creating the Artwork
I did this on my 12.9″ iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil in Procreate 4, largely using the DND Monoline brush.
The Monoline Brush is one of 10 Custom Brushes I created and recently released. You can check out the whole bundle here.
Timelapse Video of Procreate Process
Here’s a time-lapse video condensed down several hours of lettering working into about 45 seconds.
