Gag Gift Idea: Ho & Me Mug
I hope you brought your sense of humor to this week’s Silhouette Saturday! I got a little cheeky with this week’s tutorial. Gag gift parties (also know as White Elephant parties) are prevalent this time of year and I have a hard time coming up with something cheap but fun! Last year I put this quote on a custom pillow case and took that to our neighbor’s Ugly Sweater party. Everyone got a kick out of it, so I thought this year I’d put it on a coffee mug.
This was the pillow from last year. (I didn’t have a picture saved so I had to screen shot this off Instagram, thus the poor pic quality!)
Here’s what you’ll need for the mug:
- Oven-Safe Ceramic Mug (You can find these for just a few bucks. I got mine for $3!)
- Oil-Based Paint Marker (such as Sharpie. I buy mine at Michael’s.)
- Silhouette machine
I had to make it about 2.5″ across to fit on the mug, which is pretty small! As such, I opted not to mess with letter centers and the ampersand didn’t cut well that small, so I only used the main part of the vinyl stencil. Really rub it onto your mug so you can clean lines and paint marker doesn’t seep through. Then just trace and freehand the ampersand. Allow to dry a few minutes before carefully peeling off the stencil and then allowing to fully dry.
You can air cure for 30 days or bake in the oven according to these directions. I always hand-wash any mugs I make.
That’s it! Simple and fun(ny). My husband thinks it’s hilarious and keeps trying to steal it to take to work!
