Haunted Dreams Color Palette
Over the last few months, I’ve worked with the Pink Sky Color Palette, the Quiet Pastels Color Palette, and the Rainbow Falls Color Palette.
This month I went with a darker, eerie color palette well-suited for Halloween.
Almost all of my posts on my Instagram include a “Swipe to watch the process video,” which shows you how I take things from a sketch to a final piece.
You can check out my iPad Lettering in Procreate tips on this blog page. I used a lot of the tutorials I’ve shared on that page in my lettering pieces below.

Using the Color Palettes
As per usual with this color palette series, I create a color palette and use it for nine IG posts in a row. After those nine posts, I switch to a fresh color palette.
Once again, I hope that you’ll use the palette and my work to inspire your own. Just remember, there’s a fine line between being inspired by someone else’s work and being a copycat, so be sure to create your own work.
- Right-click or screenshot the photos in the blog post to save each lettering example and color palette.
- Learn How to set up Custom Color Palettes in Procreate here.
- Use them in design programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Match your physical art supplies (markers, color pencils, watercolors, etc.) to the palette and work the old-school way!
Lettering with the Haunted Dreams Color Palette
Halloween is my birthday, so was feeling extra inspired while creating the nine pieces using this color palette.
I’ll share a few details on how I created each piece below the photo.
Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece One
I sketched the calligraphy on paper and then completed the piece on my iPad Pro. Pop over to IG to see how I added some fun animation.
✒️ I used a wide variety of brushes from my Procreate Brush Bundles for this piece.
Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Two
This is a slight update on a piece I did last year. It was one of my most liked posts, so I thought it would be fun to give it a bit of an update for this color palette.
I snapped this pic of my Ugg Boots while I was walking through a Pumpkin Festival the first Fall we lived in Germany, so it has me reminiscing of Oktoberfest in our Dirndls with friends and all the yummy Kürbis (pumpkin) goodies like the soup and even Pumpkin Champagne (yes, it’s amazing)!
✒️ I used my DND Chalky Brush and Painted Heart Stamp for this piece. Both are from my Procreate Brush Bundles for this piece.
Lettering Challenge
Try taking a similar photo of your own shoes while walking outside and adding your own lettering to it right in Procreate.
Paved asphalt or parking lots are ideas, so the background is pretty neutral and easy to letter on.
Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Three
I’m back to lettering some 90s lyrics. If you know the band / 1997 song behind the “Send me all your vampires,” I’ll be super impressed. They were (and still are) one of my faves!
✒️ I used the DND Celestial Block Brush from my Procreate Brush Bundles for this piece.
Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Four
✨ It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus. ✨
✒️ I used the DND Basic Brush and Monoline Brushes brushes and stamps from my Procreate Brush Bundles for this piece.
Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Five
I love ampersands, and I had so much fun creating this Halloween-inspired one!
Fun Fact: “The shape of the character (&) predates the word ampersand by more than 1,500 years.” -Dictionary.com
✒️ I used various Brushes from my Procreate Brush Bundles for this piece.
Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Six
How many times have you watched the movie “Hocus Pocus”? I watch it at least once every single year!
Salem, Massachusetts, has so many fun events this time of year, including an annual Halloween ball.

Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Seven
Did you know these are thought to be poet Emily Dickinson’s last words? I think that makes them extra eerie.
This was one of those pieces I spent way too many hours on, re-did multiple times, and I’m still not totally happy with it, but I have other things to do…like laundry and house chores. ?
✒️ I used the DND Celestial Block Brush and DND Calligraphy Crayon Brush from my Procreate Brush Bundles for this piece. I also use the grids from The Letter Builder Tool by Ian Barnard and Stefan Kunz.
Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Eight
This piece is so “me.” During the day, I’m cool with spooky things. But at night, I am still afraid of the dark.
I can’t sleep with my feet out of the covers or my closet door open. And I totally run up the stairs after I turn the lights off. Because the boogie man might get me.

Haunted Dreams Color Palette Piece Nine
I did this piece for my “taking over” at @surelysimplechallenge on Halloween!
