What paper are you using?
First and probably the most important thing is to check what paper you are using. It has to be a heavy weight paper that has a smooth surface. Your paper is going to effect how to blend your Copic Markers. A few of my favorites I have tried: Cryogen White, Copic Xpress and Neenah.
What’s a Flick?
You have probably heard of the term ‘flicking’ if you have watched or read tutorials on How to Blend your Copic Markers. I color from Dark to light, so when I first lay down my dark color by using the side of my nib and make a flick motion. When you first lay your nib down it’s going to be darker, by making the flick, the ink is going to get lighter. Take a look at these next three photos.
Copic Markers used : YR14, YR12.
Notice how there are little jagged lines as the ink gets lighter. By creating these lines and even leaving white between them will allow the next lighter color to blend more easily.
Copics Used: YR00, E37, YR14
TIP: I love using browns to shadow my oranges and reds!
Copics used: YR12, YR00.
Since the part of the banner that says ‘Gather’ is in front of the wave in the banner, we will not use the E37 to create a shadow, since there’s nothing in front of it to create a shadow. However, we still want to create that roundness. So in the next photo, you will see how I have come down the top and bottom of the banner and it tapers off. This will give your banner a more 3d look.
Copics used: YR14, YR12 and YR00.
