New Hand Lettering Challenge + Changes! A little update on the Happy Email Club and some exciting creative news.
New Hand Lettering Challenge + Changes!
Hey, creative friends!
For those of you who have been around a long while, do you remember when I used to send my Happy Emails out every Monday instead of just once a week? If you do, you probably recall when I started doing lettering + doodle challenges back in 2015.
I asked for feedback about bringing those two things back on social media, and you overwhelmingly voted yes!
So here are the details…
THE NEW LETTERING CHALLENGE
I’ll be sending new lettering prompts out each week via The Happy Email Club. The theme will be reading, grammar, and a general love of words and lettering.
The prompts will range from saying to puns, and I have over 53 prompts compiled already. I’ll focus on lettering prompts but include some bonus ideas for illustrations at times as well.
The weekly challenge will kick off Monday, August 30, 2021, and it’s going to be SO.MUCH.FUN!
If you’re already signed up to get my Happy Emails, you don’t need to do anything new. However, if you’re not signed up already, you can do that below.

P.S. If you are signed up and you reeeeeallly don’t want weekly emails, you can unsubscribe at the bottom of any weekly email I send or have sent in the past.

Spoiler Alert:
The first weekly prompt will be “I have no shelf control”.
Above you can see my take on it and I can’t wait to see what you create in your own style!
THE CHANGES
Change is hard but necessary. And social media is ever-changing.
When I first started blogging over 10 years ago, it wasn’t the uphill battle to get eyes on your posts like it is now. That may sound frivolous, but since this is my full-time job, that’s super-duper important!
Instagram recently announced they are no longer a photo-sharing app. Instead, they’re focusing on video and trying to be more like TikTok. Videos take a TON of time to create, and I don’t own my social media. If Instagram closed tomorrow, I’d be S.O.L.
I’m sharing this to explain my need to shift back to focusing on my email list.
My email “club” is something I own and the best way for me to communicate, encourage, and educate my readers (that’s you lovely people!) on the love of lettering.
As a one-woman show with three kids and only so many working hours in the day, I have to make smart choices about how I spend my days and what parts of my business I invest my time into.
Focusing more on email makes good sense both for me and for you.
So…the Happy Email Club will go back to a weekly format starting that Monday, August 30.
The Happy Email Club: Making Mondays Extraordinary
I know we all get too many emails, so my goal will be to uplift, educate, and inspire you in every week’s email. Think prompts, lettering tips, video tutorials, lettering shop updates, and other fun freebies.
- Did you know the average email open rate is around 21%, and the click rate is only 2%?!
- Please open them, so you don’t miss out. (And so that all the work I put into them doesn’t go to waste). 🙂
- I’d rather you unsubscribe than delete them because sending them out costs me nearly $300 a month! (Crazy, right?!)
The business side is boring, but I think it helps you understand the WHY behind the changes (in case you hate that I’m making them, LOL).

Hello Dawn,
I’m writing this to ask a question. Is your new lettering challenge going to be for your iPad only or by hand? Because not all of us have an iPad to use, I wanted to know if your challenge would be of any help to those who don’t have an iPad.
Thank you
Hi Bobbie! I will be using an iPad a lot but the prompts can absolutely be done on paper using traditional supplies! 🙂 All practice is great practice, no matter what supplies you use for the challenge. Great question!
I found this searching for decor for my library. Is it possible I can buy a downloaded print of this?
Hi there! So many people have asked that I’ll be adding it to the shop this coming week! 🙂
Thank you for the update and helpful explanation Dawn! I love the saying and an image popped into my head immediately! Thanking you for your efforts and creativity!👏🏼
Hi Robin! YAY! I’m glad y’all are as excited as I am about starting the challenge and weekly emails back up.:) Happy creating!
