New Home Office + Creative Space. We just moved from Germany to Charleston, SC. Here’s a peek into my new home office + creative space!
New Home Office + Creative Space
I can’t tell you how good it feels to be getting settled and into a routine once again! We moved out of our house in Germany in late May. Between then and closing on this house in Charleston, SC in late July, we lived a nomadic existence with our three kids and two dogs. We slept in ten different places!
Our household goods arrived this past Friday, and we’ve been working round the clock to get unpacked and organized. Getting my new office space situated was one of my top priorities so that I can get back to work. And also because my office is the very first thing you see when you walk into our front door.
Organizing a New Space
We move every one to three years. I’ve had creative spaces the size of a closet to areas as big as half the top floor of our home (like I did in Germany). My new space is a good-sized room, roughly 10 ft by 12 ft, but it’s still a lot smaller than my last space, so organization and storage are essential.
I love all the windows in my new home office + creative space. The natural light is excellent for all the photos I take for the blog!
Décor Details
- Cube Shelving: I used two IKEA KALLAX shelves to store the bulk of my books, printers, and office supplies. All the pink and gray fabric bins are also from IKEA.
- Rolling Cart: The blue rolling cart in the corner is an IKEA RÅSKOG utility cart. The white and metal bins hanging off of it are also from IKEA.
- Rug: I ordered this 5’x7′ Damask Tufted Vintage Wool Rug, Multicolored from Target.com and I am so impressed with the quality. The first rug I ordered from Overstock, and while I didn’t love it in my office, it looks perfect in our Master Bedroom.
- Desk: I ordered this beautiful black and white Arnac Desk from Steven Shell Living, but it took 6 months to arrive. While I waited (and waited) for it to come, I picked up this adorable Hairpin Desk from Target for just over $50!
- Walls: Agreeable Gray Paint by Sherwin-Williams
Here is a closer look at that statement Arnac Desk! I moved my chair so you can see the legs and drawers.
When I posted these photos on Instagram, everyone wanted to know about the clock. It’s a free screensaver you can grab over a Fliqlo.com.
This desk has that dreamy farmhouse-mixed-with-vintage-flair style I love so much!
The Workbox 2.0 Storage Unit
Opposite my windows is my WorkBox 2.0 from The Original ScrapBox. The current model is the WorkBox 3.0. It’s slightly different in the shelving layout and comes with clear bins, and it takes a lot fewer hours to assemble than my model. Mine came with black fabric bins, but I upgraded to the clear totes just this past week.
I added two ScrapMaBox bins in the center of the Workbox for marker storage and I love them!
The Original Scrapbox sent me a code to share with you. Use code DAWNNICOLE to get a $100 discount on the WorkBox 3.0, DreamBox and the Ultimate SewingBox.

Before the light was installed
When I first got my WorkBox 2.0, I posted an unbiased review of it which you can read here. Within that review is a photo of it in my last home studio, with the black fabric bins. It’s crazy awesome how much I can store in it!
The Final Touch
It’s the Kichler Barrington Anvil and Driftwood Art Deco light, and I ordered it from Lowes.com. I accidentally broke one of the glass shades when we installed the family room one, so we just omitted them and I actually think I prefer it without them.
And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed a peek into where I work and create.

That WorkBox has me drooling!!! I love the space, it’s so bright with sunshine!
Thanks so much, Angie! It was one of the best investments I’ve ever made for sure! 🙂
Looks great! I’m in the throws of a move also. But not nearly as far as you. Just Illinois back home to Missouri. May I ask what lazer printer you have? I’m shopping for one and not many people own one so it’s been hard to get honest reviews.
I picked it up at Costco last week and am loving it. It’s an HP LaserJet Pro M281cdw Wireless Color Printer. 🙂
It’s so beautiful! This is something I really want to do one day and your room really provides a lot of inspiration! Enjoy!!
Thank you so much, Donna!
You’re welcome Dawn, have a wonderful day!
HAHAHA the “boob” light comment cracked me up! We had them in our house when we purchased it (it was a new build) and I told my husband that only a man would pick a light like that! Very beautiful workspace and nicely organized. I am in organization envy now. 🙂 Also, that VIEW you have of those beautiful color houses – how inspiring that must be for creating! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Cindy! My husband said he’s never heard them called boob lights but I was certain I’m not the only one who calls them that, ha!
Hey Dawn! Wow, I love how organized everything is and the looks into your studio space are awesome! I definitely need some inspiration for my new studio too (though it won’t be done for about 9 months to build our house). I incorporated tons windows and lights in our plans for the same reasons as you. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Denise! I will say I can’t wait for the blinds people to come and install the window treatments, all that lovely morning sun heats it up fast so I’ve been sitting in the kitchen in the mornings to work! I can’t wait to see your new home. I think ours took a bit over 7 months but I was surprised by how fast it went by…I guess an international move helped with that though, ha!
Love the wall color!! I’ve painted most is my house in Agreeable Gray and it really is the perfect shade of gray. Your creative space is absolutely beautiful!!
Thanks lady! I sure could use a Kat and Melinda fix now that I’m back in the States!
Welcome back to the States, Dawn <3
Thanks, Corie!!
I want your home office !!!
