Playful Serifs: Letter B
Moving on to week two of twenty-six!
If you are new to this series, pop over to the Playful Serifs series homepage for all the details and to download what you’ll need to join in the lettering fun.
I’m sharing it first if you’re just here for this week’s video, but I’ve included some additional information in the blog post you may find helpful. So, keep scrolling for more details, especially if you’re new to hand-lettering.
WATCH THE Video Lesson
This week’s video is just a bit over 8 minutes long.
Watch the video for more details, but here are a few main style features of this letter.
- Slab Serifs (bracketed). Check out the graphic below for some common serif styles. I include this image each week in case anyone new joins this ongoing series.
- Moderate-Contrast Stroke Width Variation. This means some letter strokes are thin, and some are thick, but the variation between the two is moderate. We did a high-contrast style with the letter A last week.
- Above Waistline Center. The middle of the letter B should sit just above the center line. In lettering terminology, we call this the waistline of the letter B.
