Rainbow Falls Color Palette
Over the last few months, I’ve worked with the Pink Sky Color Palette and the Quiet Pastels Color Palette. I’ve been working with a bright, fun rainbow color palette this past month.

Using the Color Palettes
As per usual with this color palette series, I create a color palette and use it for nine IG posts in a row. After those nine posts, I switch to a fresh color palette.
Once again, I hope that you’ll use the palette and my work to inspire your own. Just remember, there’s a fine line between being inspired by someone else’s work and being a copycat, so be sure to create your own work!

- Use them in design programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Match your physical art supplies (markers, colored pencils, watercolors, etc.) to the palette and work the old-school way!
Lettering with the Rainbow Falls Color Palette
Below are all the pieces I created with this palette. I’ll share a few details on how I created each piece below the photo.

The exact calligraphy in this piece is one of the styles you can practice in my new 30 Days of Celestial Brush Calligraphy Workbook!

You know you’ve been using your iPad too much when you double-tap your sketch pad to erase, and it’s a real pencil, so nothing happens. Please say I’m not the only one who does this sometimes!
✒️ I used a Celestial Block Brush and the Monoline Detail Brush from my Procreate Brush Bundles for this piece.

This piece is an update of a piece I did a few years ago.
This color palette was so much fun to work with, and all the bright colors inspired me to create a lot of fun lettering styles.
I kind of want to keep working with it forever!

This was the first GIF I’ve created using Procreate. It was time-consuming but not hard at all. Head over to IG to see it in action!
There are a lot of great tutorials online for creating GIFs in Procreate if you want to learn how to make one.

- The original rump shaker version of this is by Blackstreet circa 1996, and it will always be one of my favorite 90s songs, but you MUST check out the killer remake of it by Chet Faker. It’s SO GOOD.

- Tip: If you want to Google this lettering style to find more inspiration, use the search terms “Beveled Sans Serif” or “Faceted Sans Serif.”
Rainbow Falls Color Palette Piece Five
My love for ampersands runs deep. This design I created digitally was inspired by all the fun Hexi Penny Tile Typography designs I keep seeing on bathroom floors on HGTV and in home décor magazines.
If I ever have my own studio, this colorful Ampersand tile design is going right in front of the coffee bar area! ☕️
People always ask why I love ampersands so much that I have one tattooed on my inner left wrist, so here goes:
- I’ve always loved letters and words. I was an English major in college and took a ton of poetry classes (both studying poets and writing my own). I think the ampersand is just the most lovely character!
- In literature, something always follows the ampersand. It means there is more to the story. So when I’m going through a hard time in life, I can look at my tattoo and remember that this hard moment is not how the story ends. It’s a symbol of hope.
- This is along the same lines as reason number two. For me, the ampersand is a symbol of my faith. “And if not, He is still good.” -Daniel 3:18. It’s a reminder that when God doesn’t answer my prayers like I expect, to be patient and trust that He sees the bigger picture. As Lysa TerKeurst said, “God loves us too much to answer our prayers at any time other than the right time.”
🖋 Tools: I created this in Adobe Illustrator and mocked it up in Photoshop on a polaroid photo I took. In AI, I used the shape tool to make all my hexagons and then turned some of the colorful hexis white to create the ampersand.

“How do you deal with comparing your creative work to others?”
People have left this question as a comment on my blog (more than once!), so here’s my take.
I think for most of us there are times when we get caught up in comparing our work to someone else’s, making us feel “less than,” but I try to focus on becoming a better version of myself.
I know that many artists out there have far more skills than I’ll ever have, but that’s ok because I’m only in competition with myself. Mindset is everything!
I usually say that I like to “keep my eyes on my own page,” but I was listening to an older episode of the Directionally Challenged Podcast (by @candicekayla on IG) a week or so ago, and their guest on the show that day was answering a similar question.
She called it “staying on your own lane” and used a fantastic analogy. You know how you’re in line at the grocery, and your lane is moving so slow? You notice other lanes are moving faster, so you switch lanes, and then that one slows down.
Then it happens again when you move to a third lane. And then you notice your original lane is the one that ended up moving the most quickly.
I think the point is to be patient with yourself and trust that you picked the right lane. You’ll progress at your own pace but staying in your own lane will usually end up getting you to where you want to go the fastest.
Do your thing! It’s as simple (and as hard) as that. ?

Tip: I turned some of my hand-lettering Procreate Stamp Brushes for the serif and sans serif letters to speed up my workflow!
Side note: I can’t remember exactly which episode it was because I’ve been binging on the first season (from last year). I get a lot out of it as a woman, a mom, a creative, and a business owner. I highly recommend adding it to your Podcast playlist and starting at the beginning.

My favorite time of year is here! ??? This piece was an update of a piece I did a few years back.
I’d list all my favorite things about Fall, but it’s pretty much the cliché things all Fall-lovers like about this season.

This piece was inspired by the show “The Good Place.” If you haven’t seen it, it’s a binge-worthy one on Netflix. “Ya Basic” is pretty much the show’s catchphrase.

This is an alternate version of the same phrase. In my sketching-on-paper phase of creating the lettering, I liked how two of the styles came out, so I opted to complete both!
