Playful Serifs: Letter D
It’s time for week four of twenty-six!
New to this series? Pop over to the Playful Serifs series homepage for all the details and to download what you’ll need to join in the lettering fun.
I’m sharing it first if you’re just here for this week’s video, but I’ve included some additional information in the blog post you may find helpful. So, keep scrolling for more details, especially if you’re new to hand-lettering.
WATCH THE Video Lesson
This week’s video is just shy of 7 minutes long.
STYLE ELEMENTS
Watch the video for more details, but here are a few main style features of this letter.
- Old Style Serif. Check out the graphic below for some common serif styles. I include this image each week in case anyone new joins this ongoing series.
- No-Contrast Stroke Width Variation. I always think of block lettering for no-contrast styles. We did a high-contrast style with the letter A, a moderate contrast style with the letter B, and a low-contrast with the letter C.
The Art of Playful Lettering Book
My new book, The Art of Playful Lettering, is on Amazon.
I’ll teach you The Art of Playful Lettering in my signature style in Six Chapters (208 pages).
It features Lettering Basics, Color Palettes, Lettering Styles (ten complete alphabets!), Easy Illustrations, Step-by-Step Projects, and a Lettering Challenge.
See you next week for Letter E!
