Bubble Letter Alphabet
I’ve been creating and sharing a workbook for a new, complete playful lettering style, along with a challenge, via my newsletter every month this year.
Milk Pop is a fun, bubbly twist on classic bubble lettering. It already brings playful vibes on its own, but it truly comes to life with a dimensional style that makes it leap off the page.
The inspiration came from my kids’ obsession with Boba and Milk Tea, which led to the name Milk Pop, blending the fun pop of boba with the creamy sweetness of milk tea. The result? A name and style that feels both retro and cheerful.

Bubble Letters Alphabet FAQ
Bubble letters are one of the most fun and beginner-friendly lettering styles to learn, and they often come with lots of questions about tools, technique, and style. If you are just getting started or want to improve your bubble lettering, this quick FAQ covers the most common questions about drawing, practicing, and styling a bubble letter alphabet. Keep scrolling for simple answers and helpful tips to make your letters look bold, clean, and full of personality.
What are bubble letters?
Bubble letters are rounded, inflated letterforms that appear soft and puffy, as if filled with air. They’re popular in doodling, hand lettering, graffiti-inspired art, and kids’ handwriting practice because they’re fun, bold, and forgiving to draw.
Are bubble letters good for beginners?
Yes! They’re one of the best lettering styles for beginners. Bubble letters are built from simple shapes and thick outlines, so you don’t need perfect line control or fancy tools to get great results.
How do you draw bubble letters step by step?
- Draw simple stick letter frames and add bubbly line work around them, as shown in the graphic below.
- You can also start by writing a basic block or print version of the letter. Then draw a rounded outline around it, adding extra space and soft curves at the corners. Close the outline and erase the inner guide letter to create a clean bubble letter ready to decorate.

Do bubble letters have to be perfectly round?
Not at all. Slight wobbles and unevenness actually add charm and personality. Think “puffy” instead of “perfect.” Consistent thickness matters more than perfect curves.
What tools work best for bubble lettering?
Almost anything works: pencils, markers, brush pens, crayons, or digital brushes in Procreate. Thick markers make it especially easy because they naturally create bold outlines.
What’s the difference between bubble letters and block letters?
Block letters have straight edges and sharp corners. Bubble letters feature rounded edges and expanded strokes, creating a soft, inflated look. Think square vs. pillow.
How can I make my bubble letters look more 3D?
Add a drop shadow, offset outline, or simple highlight streaks on one side of each letter. Even a small white highlight curve can make letters feel glossy and dimensional.
Are bubble letters only for kids’ projects?
Nope — they’re used everywhere from logos and stickers to murals and social graphics. Style, color, and texture determine whether they feel playful, retro, bold, or street-style cool.
What’s the best way to practice a bubble letter alphabet?
Trace first, then redraw freehand. Maintain consistent stroke thickness and letter spacing. Once you’re comfortable, experiment with bounce, tilt, and exaggerated shapes to develop your own style.
