What’s Included in the Alpha Practice Sheet?
- Printable PDF worksheet
- Procreate practice file
- Trace-to-learn style practice
- A variety of modern calligraphy styles
If you’re working on paper, small brush pens, such as the Tombow Fudenosuke, work best for these worksheets, but any flexible brush pen will work. For Procreate, I use the calligraphy brushes from my best-selling Dawn Nicole Original Procreate Brush Kit.
How to Practice Calligraphy Effectively
- Daily Practice. Short daily practice can build muscle memory faster and is easier to commit to than occasional long practice sessions. You can do one row of the worksheet each day or complete the worksheet and then practice without tracing on the remaining days.
- Slow Practice. Practicing slowly helps you control pressure and stroke direction, keeping your letters clean and consistent.
- Trace, then freehand. Start by tracing letters to learn their structure, then move to freehand writing to build confidence and control.
- Digital vs Paper. Digital practice allows easy undo and layering, while paper practice strengthens hand control and pressure awareness.
