This playful sans serif alphabet combines simple letterforms with hearts, patterns, doodles, scalloped edges, and candy-colored details to create letters that feel fun and expressive.
In this A–Z lettering series, I’ll show you how to draw each letter step by step while exploring the signature elements that make this style so charming. Whether you’re lettering in Procreate, creating handmade cards, decorating journals, or simply looking for a playful new alphabet to practice, this series will help you build a complete Pinky Promise alphabet one letter at a time.

What Is the Pinky Promise Lettering Style?
Pinky Promise is a playful sans-serif lettering style I created. It’s built on simple, rounded letterforms that are decorated with whimsical details and sweet embellishments. While the base letters are clean and easy to draw, the magic comes from the decorative elements layered on top. The result is so playful and anything but basic!
Some signature Pinky Promise features include:
- Rounded sans serif letter shapes
- Hearts, bows, wings, and cute doodles
- Polka dots, checkerboards, and simple patterns
- Scalloped edges and stitched details
- Inline accents and decorative outlines
- Soft pastel-inspired color palettes
- Playful fillers and swirls surrounding the lettering
The result is a style that feels happy, nostalgic, and full of personality while still being beginner-friendly and easy to customize!

Is this lettering style beginner-friendly?
Yes! The Pinky Promise style begins with basic sans-serif letters, making it approachable for beginners. Once the letter shape is drawn, you can gradually add decorative details like hearts, dots, patterns, and outlines.
Do I need Procreate to follow this series?
No. While the tutorials can be created in Procreate, you can draw these letters with any medium, including pencils, markers, brush pens, or digital drawing apps. That said, I’ll be doing the video tutorials in Procreate.
What makes the Pinky Promise style unique?
Pinky Promise combines clean sans-serif letterforms with sweet decorative details such as hearts, scallops, checkerboard patterns, polka dots, bows, and whimsical doodles. The style is playful, feminine, and highly customizable. We’ll be using brushes from my Maximalist Kit for Procreate to make it extra easy and fun!
Can I use different colors?
Absolutely. The pastel pinks, purples, and teals are part of the signature look, but you can experiment with any color palette that matches your project or personal style. If you want to use the same palette, you can download it for free right here.
How can I make my letters look more playful?
Try adding decorative outlines, repeating patterns, doodles, hearts, swirls, sparkles, or filler elements around your letters. Mixing textures and embellishments is one of the easiest ways to create a playful lettering style.
Should every letter have the same decorations?
Not necessarily. One of the fun aspects of the Pinky Promise style is that each letter can have its own unique combination of patterns, textures, and embellishments while still feeling cohesive as part of the same alphabet. This gives it my signature “mixed lettering” style vibe, even though the letters are all the same style.
Can I use these letters for commercial projects?
No, these letters are my original design. I’m sharing them with you for education and practice purposes only. I encourage you to take what you learn and create your own flower lettering for commercial projects or anything you intend to sell. What supplies do I need?
You only need basic drawing supplies to get started. A pencil, eraser, and paper are enough. If you’re working digitally, an iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate are recommended. As I mentioned earlier, we’ll be using brushes from my Maximalist Kit for Procreate to make it extra easy and fun!
How to Download & OPEN Files
Each post of this series will feature a set of free worksheets. Here’s how to download the files.
If you’re using a computer:
- Download the ZIP file.
- Double-click the ZIP file to unzip it, which creates a standard folder containing the files.
- Open the folder, then locate the .procreate file and/or the PDF.
- Send to your iPad using AirDrop, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or email.
- On your iPad, tap the file and select “Open in Procreate” to open the Procreate file, or tap the PDF to open it in your preferred app.
If you’re doing it directly on your iPad:
- Download the ZIP file and open the Files app.
- Go to your Downloads folder or the location where you saved it.
- Tap the ZIP file once. The iPad will automatically unzip it into a new folder.
- Open the new folder and tap the .procreate file.
- Tap Share → Open in Procreate (or it may open automatically).
